Something really important to the Birch is supporting the culture of our city. The positive from LockDown was we got to engage with a local Indie Band which had formed during this time.
They needed help to create a brand identity for the band. This in our eyes was forward-thinking and shows their intent to really make a go at things. They stated to us they wanted to be the next big thing, a bold statement but we somehow believed in their conviction. First things first we needed to hear their tunes to fully engage and understand their vibe. We could immediately hear the 90s influence from the likes of The Stone Roses and Oasis. Music to our ears!
One thing was apparent in our discussions, they are Derby and Proud so this needed to come through in the identity. The final outcome certainly does that. We opted to use the Derbyshire Rose as the icon but with a distressed effect to give it some edge. The Logotype is a strong block typeface that is confident and means business. The brand is fluid and as an alternative, we have created 'M' and 'Rose' icon lozenges. Regarding the colour palette, we have opted for the counties Derbyshire Blue and Black/White. I little nod to the super Rams.
This is a fantastic journey to be on supporting the band. We've designed all the single covers and are helping with promotional photography. The plan is to help and manage the brand for as long as possible. We are very proud to work with such amazing homegrown talent. The future is very bright and we hope they put Derby on the map for Indie Music.
